.US Redemption Period

The registry operator for .US has implemented a 30 day Redemption Period. The Redemption Period is applicable for domain names that have expired and is in addition to the grace period that follows the expiry of a .US registration. Domains names that are not renewed within 40 days of their expiry date can now be restored during the Redemption Period. The Redemption Period starts when the domain is deleted at the Registry and lasts for 30 days.

The Redemption Period differs from the Grace Period in several important aspects.

Domain names must be 'redeemed' before they are renewed. The redemption process established by the registry is a separate, manual procedure that must be completed before the redeemed domain can be renewed.
Registry charges a substantial Redemption Fee to redeem a domain name. The redemption fee is in addition to the standard renewal fee.
During the Redemption Period the Neulevel WHOIS will show the domain status as:

```
This domain status will be displayed for 35 days following the end of the grace period. However the redemption period only lasts for 30 days. During the final 5 days, when this status is displayed, the name cannot be redeemed.

The Redemption Period provides a final opportunity for registrants to Renew a .US domain they did not intend to let expire. However, the process is costly, both in fees and in effort. Registrants should be discouraged from using the Redemption Period and encouraged to renew domains before expiration or during the grace period when a renewal can be conducted with the registry in real time without redemption costs.

If you have an expired domain that requires redemption:

Contact your sales or support agent and provide the domain name requiring redemption services.
Provide payment of redemption fees plus a one year renewal at your normal renewal pricing.
The domain can only be reverted back to the original Registrant (original whois information).
It will take approximately 2-3 business days to complete the entire process.
